Our Leadership

Purpose Financial is all about our people. Our goal is to assemble the most passionate, motivated and talented people we can find. These people then put together the most compelling ideas and create the most effective products and solutions possible to help make our industry even better for our customers.

SOM SEIF

CEO, Purpose Financial

I went to the University of Toronto for Engineering. Although I took a more unconventional route to finance, it taught me the core skills of not only how to learn, but, more importantly, how to fail yet keep moving forward!

After that, I started my career at RBC Investment Banking, which was a crash course of effort and learning. It accelerated my career meaningfully at a very young age and helped me figure out what I really wanted in my life and career.

I love building really amazing products that people love and that change their lives for the better. But I’m most proud of the people who I’ve inspired to come join me along the way. I love the everyday effort and constant challenge that comes with building a great business. I skip to work every day because I don’t look at it as work.

My goal for the future of Purpose Financial has always been to set a high standard that my industry peers can look up to and that helps move our industry forward. We start with a mindset that if our customers win, we win. Leading our industry through innovation can drive systemic change. While it takes time, the ripple effect is profound.

STÉPHANE MARCEAU

CEO, Thinking Capital

I was born in a small town in Quebec. I loved that this tiny town offered all kinds of sports and opportunities for young people. At age 11, I took my first job as a paperboy. I absolutely loved walking my paper route early in the morning during winter — no light, no activity — only the sound of my footsteps crunching in the snow.

My career has afforded me a diverse array of experiences in the corporate and startup worlds, and everything in between! Through it all, I have been extremely fortunate to be surrounded constantly by incredible teams of talented people, many of whom I now call friends.

I'm proud of the risks we've taken together, the funding we were able to attain for various endeavors, and the milestones we've hit over the years. What I value most of all is that, at the end of the day, I have had the opportunity to shape and be shaped by the incredible minds and initiatives of those around me.

As a former entrepreneur, I’m thrilled to be working for a company that goes to bat for small businesses when they need it the most. I’ve financed many projects over the years, and each experience brought the emotional rollercoaster of raising needed funds to bring new concepts and dreams to life.

I can personally relate to these emotionally intense moments from my own experiences. What we do matters on a human level, as each of our clients has their own dreams, as well as the uncertainties that come along with it.

AVINASH CHIDAMBARAM

CEO, Ario

I went to school for Computer Systems Engineering at Carleton University in Ottawa. I made some amazing lifelong friends over shared experiences including crazy long nights doing projects and studying for exams. All of that led to wining co-op terms at amazing companies like Nortel and ultimately to work on very satisfying projects.

I've been fortunate to work on and lead teams that have developed some of the best products to ever get built in Canada and which have been enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. At Interac, I was responsible for building infrastructure and launching Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as working on the launch of e-transfer, which is Canada's most successful fintech service.

Prior to that I was fortunate to work at Blackberry on iconic product services like BBM and AppWorld. Through all of these experiences I’ve learned what it takes to build technology and products that people will use and promote. Beyond the technology, I've learned what it takes to market and grow these services to global customers.

I'm most proud of the teams I've worked with and all of the many compelling problems that we’ve solved. Every project success in every company I've been a part of has been developed by a team.

I love uncovering solutions and iterating with partners to create products that really impact our customers. At Ario, we've been able to find that fit between taking our product and the problems that our partners and their small businesses have and solving for them in a way that makes what we do very compelling. Going through that journey of discovery is the best part of my job.

JEFF GANS

CEO, Purpose Advisor Solutions

I have a BA in International Relations from Swarthmore College and an MBA from Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. After that my career path took me to roles at Ameriprise Financial and the Head of HNW Investment Management at TD Wealth. Along the way I learned how to work closely with advisors and help them build their own successful businesses.

At Purpose Advisor Solutions, I love that we’re building a new, cutting edge model for advisors that lets them run their own practices the way that best fits themselves and the needs of their clients. We’re creating a better advisor and client experience that improves the advisor-client relationship while helping both to reach their big goals more effectively.

I think Purpose Financial is changing the future of the financial services industry by providing new options and opportunities for people with limited choice, while at the same time helping consumers and business owners achieve success.

JEFF BOUGANIM

Chief Financial Officer

I started my business education at York University. I loved the intense program with leading professors who taught based on real-world case studies. It was a great environment to work with other students, and I’ve developed not only a professional network from it, but life-long friends as well.

Since then I’ve worked in financial services ranging from small entrepreneurial companies to large international institutions, including CIBC World Markets, Dundee Bank of Canada,
Xceed Mortgage Corporation and MCAN Mortgage Corporation. Along the way I learned how working with a great team drives amazing outcomes.

At Purpose Financial, I’m constantly inspired by the team that I work with and their individual passion towards making our company grow and succeed. An amazing personal dedication runs throughout our organization.

I think together we will change the way our industry looks at customers and their needs. We’re driven to help our clients achieve success. You see the focus on the customer as a common theme at many companies, but the integrity and focus with which that is applied at Purpose Financial stands out for me.

BEN MCCABE

Chief Operating Officer, Thinking Capital

I have an undergraduate degree from McGill, and an MBA from INSEAD. One of the best parts of studying overseas is now having great friends in interesting places around the world.

Earlier in my career I worked in private equity at TorQuest, where I learned how to structure my thinking and solve complex problems piece-by-piece. In recent years I’m proud to have expanded the scope of my career beyond finance, becoming more of multi-functional operator.

At Thinking Capital, I love that I get to help our teams execute on their projects by moving roadblocks out of their way. The way Thinking Capital approaches the market is a great example of Purpose’s strategy of identifying areas of white space and inefficiency in our industry, and then incubating customer-centric solutions to address them.

MATT COYLE

Vice President, Customer Experience

I have a degree in graphic design. During school, I loved learning about an entire craft and industry that I didn’t know even existed, and I particularly loved identity design. Every single day, I’m excited by how all aspects of a brand can have such a dramatic impact on business success and the customer experience.

In my past work at MLSE, I learned the characteristics of leadership and how important it is to give back to your community. To those who much is given, much is expected.

At Purpose Financial, we’re developing new ideas and initiatives that have positive impact on the industry and push us forward. We’re doing all of this in a way nobody else has thought of before, by creating connection points that will fill gaps within the industry and help to deliver a better experience for our customers.
